Gordon Hurden is an illustrator whose passion for birds is captured in the exquisite detail of the finely drawn portraits he creates from his Exeter studio.
Each drawing can take up to 4 weeks and starts life as a rough freehand sketch with all the elements and colour-ways in place before the work of crafting-in the miniature detail begins.
Gordon’s successful career in design/publishing spans over 50 years and in the last 30 years, his main tool for drawing has been a digital stylus/table, producing hand drawn digital illustrations.
“I feel my unique graphic style and simplicity of line brings these magnificent birds into sharp focus with intense detail. I am always trying to capture the very essence of their nature and beauty.
The myriad of colours and their luminosity as the light shifts is what, for me, makes birds so beautiful and mysterious.”

“Do get in touch with me, I am always glad to hear from art enthusiasts and other artists. Also I work on a commission basis so do feel free to contact me to discuss your project. I hope you enjoy these bird print illustrations as much I enjoyed creating them.”
